Appealed by Emma Chase
I am so excited that I can finally talk about Appealed by Emma Chase. It is the perfect ending to this trilogy. Romantic, sexy as heck, and filled with great banter and humorous interludes between the main characters, Brent and Kennedy. I have read Sustained, the second in book in the Legal Briefs series several times at this point. I truly could not wait for Brent’s story and I was not disappointed.
Brent is a charmer. He seems a bit facetious at first but he really did grow on me as a character. He has a caring personality and is fierce in his love for his friends and family. His interactions with his mom made me laugh quite a bit. She just wants him to be happy and provide her with a grandchild and if that means he needs to find a man… well so be it. You can tell humor runs in the family.
Kennedy is ruthless. She has long thought Brent wronged her back in boarding school. Missed teenage communications caused many hurt feelings but Brent is doing his best to convince her that their adult feelings are more important, and of course they are. Kennedy is not afraid to go toe-to-toe against Brent in both the courtroom and bedroom. They are both blindsided by their feelings for each other. Who expects to meet their childhood neighbor and all of sudden want to lick every last inch of her? Certainly not Brent.
As usual, Emma Chase outdoes herself with the legal details. They do not get in the way of the romance but instead, enrich the story. I know nothing about the law (thank goodness in my opinion) but Chase clearly does and it makes Brent and Kennedy much more interesting characters. I love smart women and Kennedy is just that. She knows her stuff (pardon the cliche) and it definitely turns Brent on. Kennedy is confident and sure of herself. She does not expect to come to love Brent, but once she gives in to her feelings, both of these characters embrace what their new connection means.
I was happy to see a few small scenes with Jake, Chelsea and their brood too. They don’t overtake the story but had just the right amount of secondary character appearances. And the epilogue! Oh the epilogue. Just the sweetest thing. I am a big fan of epilogues where children are present and well, A+ Ms. Chase! This was a great denouement to the story.
Appealed has a great combination of character and story arc. The story is paced really nicely and I read it in a matter of hours. I am excited to explore Emma Chase’s backlist and of course, re-read Appealed.

I need this book in my life, I think. Sadly I broke my Kindle while reading The Score today, waahhhh. But I’m definitely putting it on my list! Do you think I need to read the first 2 books in the series?

These books stand alone really well. I still haven’t read the first book because I didn’t hear great reviews of it but books 2 and 3 are amazing.
