Review: The List by Tawna Fenske

It’s NOT good when your computer freezes. Anyone who has ever spent time on a computer know this immediately. But it is even worse when your computer has frozen on an image of your made up “Fucket List” (bucket list, but with sex). That’s the dilemma Cassie Michaels finds herself in when she brings her computer to Hot Swap and meets Simon Traxel. To Cassie, Simon is just the tech guy helping her out. It doesn’t hurt that he is very easy on the eyes. What Cassie doesn’t realize is that Simon is the very rich owner of Hot Swap. All Cassie knows is she needs her computer fixed.

When Simon unexpectedly delivers her laptop right to her home, before Cassie quite realizes it, she is having sex with Simon. He is “Crazyhawt sex with a dark-haired, anonymous stranger with great abs”, item number four on her list. It is impulsive and unexpected but these two are wildly attracted to each other and the sex proves to be incredibly hot. Before he quite knows what he is saying, Simon proposes that he work on the Fucket list with Cassie. She agrees, as long as he is in agreement that this does not mean that they are in a relationship of any kind. Simon is all too happy to agree to that. He doesn’t do relationships.

And so it begins. Tawna Fenske does a great job of showing how early on in the book, sex between Simon and Cassie is just that, sex. They both respect and like each other but there is no trying to learn anything about each other. That does change of course. They both have growing feelings though they are loath to admit it.

Simon believes he cannot have a relationship. He has a sister, Junie, with Downs Syndrome. He wants to focus solely on her and he is afraid she will become attached to a woman who will no longer be in his life. And, he’s found as of late that most women just want him for his money. They expect a lavish lifestyle when in reality Simon enjoys his business and he wants to spend as much time as possible with Junie.

Cassie is convinced she does not want a relationship. Cassie is a soil scientist and loves her work but she often feels like one of the guys. She invented the Fucket List in the beginning to show her sisters that she can be just as crazy and girly as they are. She wanted to make them a tiny bit jealous. Cassie loves her sisters, Missy and Lisa, but they don’t have much in common. Or so she thinks anyway.

I just LOVED Cassie. There aren’t enough female scientists in contemporary romances. She is incredibly smart, she has a fabulous sense of humor, and while she is shy in the beginning about her desires, soon enough she has no problem telling Simon what she wants with him when it comes to sex. I loved the conversations that Simon and Cassie would have because they both are a little dorky and big into science so it was nice to see that flow so easily between them when they were getting to know each other.

I admit, I was frustrated that Simon hid the truth about his wealth from Cassie for so long. It was hard to see a character I liked acting so dumb. Clearly, Cassie wasn’t after him for his money but he continued to hide that from her. I feel like Cassie deserved a bit of a medal at the end for accepting his apology and letting him try again. Of course, I did want them to have a happy ending so I can’t complain too much!

Overall though, this book was just really fun to read. I zoomed through it really quickly in one sitting. The dialog is smart and funny, the love scenes are incredibly sexy and, perhaps even better, at times really humorous! There is a kitchen scene that had me laughing out loud. I felt incredibly pleased for these characters when the story ended and that was just a really nice feeling.

The List is the first book I’ve read by Tawna Fenske but I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this story. I can already tell I will be seeking out more books by this author. If you’re in the need for a smart and sexy story that will leave you happy at the end, I definitely suggest The List.

The List is available now.

It all starts with a list.

A sex list.

Cassie Michaels comes up with a list of naughty experiences to impress her sisters and finally convince them—and herself—she’s not just a boring soil scientist. Unfortunately, it also makes Cassie a liar if she doesn’t tick off at least some of the kinky exploits before her sister’s bachelorette party. Luckily, she’s found just the man to help her, starting with number four—sex with an anonymous stranger.

As the owner of a chain of computer shops, Simon Traxel doesn’t deal with mundane repairs, but when a brunette with killer green eyes and a list of sexploits frozen across her computer screen shows up at one of his shops, he’s ready to get a little hands on.

Simon’s more than willing to have some fun helping Cassie turn her made-up adventures into reality. Between steamy public romps that go hilariously awry, and sexy antics with kitchen utensils, getting through a to-do list has never been this much fun. But nearing the last few items means nearing the end of their time together, and Simon isn’t ready to let her go…
