There’s some truth to this but Austin has definitely worked hard to become a talented brew master. He studied in Germany and knows his beer. He also happened to share a lot of sexual experiences with his friend, Ross, another brew master.
When Evelyn and Austin start a relationship together, it is not easy. Between Austin’s family expectations (especially his mother who is not the nicest to Evelyn), Evelyn’s own doubts about their relationship lasting, and Austin’s unrequited feelings for Ross, they do not have an easy road. When Ross enters Austin’s life again, things only get more complex.
I will be honest. Tapped was only an okay read for me. I had a hard time investing in Austin and Evelyn’s relationship as I couldn’t quite understand the instant attraction they had to each other. Evelyn in particular I had a hard time connecting to, much as I tried. But Austin’s instant love baffled me. He had barely met Evelyn and suddenly he was realizing that there is no way he can marry this other woman, that after a lifetime of sexual experiences, Evelyn was the one for him.
Add in Ross, who complicates their relationship even more, and I just felt very distant from these characters overall. I liked the business aspects of this book though. The author clearly did her research into the brewing world and that showed.
While Tapped was not the strongest book for me, I firmly believe that for every book there is a reader out there and I know this book will resonate with other readers.
