First we were friends. Then we were roommates. Now I want more…

What can I say about Chess Copper? The woman is capable of bringing me to my knees. I know this about five minutes after getting naked for her.

No one is more surprised than me. The prickly photographer my team hired to shoot our annual charity calendar isn’t my usual type. She’s defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. But when I’m with her, all the regrets and darkness goes away. She makes life fun.

I want to know Chess, be close to her. Which is a bad idea.

Chess is looking for a relationship. I’ve never given a woman more than one night. But when fate leaves Chess without a home, I step up and offer her mine. We’re roommates now. Friends without benefits. But it’s getting harder to keep our hands off each other. And the longer we live together the more I realize she’s becoming my everything.

Trick is… Now that I’ve made her believe I’m a bad bet, how do I convince her to give this player a true shot at forever?

Review: Pretty Face by Lucy Parker

prettyfaceI was an immediate fan of Lucy Parker after reading her first book, Act Like It. To say I had high hopes for Pretty Face would be putting it lightly. I am very pleased to be able to say that this book rocked my world.

Before I dig into the romance, I want to touch briefly on one of the most interesting aspects of the book. Actress Lily Lamprey has a voice… unfortunately it’s distinctive for all the wrong reasons. When she gets the role in Luc Savage’s new play, the first thing she has to face is voice lessons. And these lessons are intense! I learned so much about this process. I had no idea how involved or rigorous voice training is. I think Lucy Parker did a fabulous job of showcasing this in the book, making it a natural part of Lily’s character arc and making it interesting for the reader. No info dumping here!

Then there is the romance! Ah, it is just wonderful. Luc is quite prepared to dismiss Lily as a second-rate actress, only good for the soap she currently plays on. Lily is the vapid, man-stealing, sex goddess of the show and well, Luc is having an impossible time seeing her as anything else. But then she auditions and slowly but surely Luc realizes Lily has so much untapped potential. (Lily knows this by the way! That’s why she’s auditioning. She is ready to move on from her her current typecast role into deeper and more meaningful acting experiences.)

And then well, the heat is on. From the moment these two meet, there is a visceral connection between them. Even as Lily dismisses Luc as a jerk for his preconceived notions about her, there is no doubting the friction between them. And that friction only grows as they work together. And believe me, you will feel it. The pull and longing between these two is just incredibly strong and volatile. Luc and Lily know they cannot give in because there is a lot on the line. Lily already faces backlash for her new role. No one is willing to believe that she got the job just based on her audition. And Luc is restoring a theater on top of crafting his current production. He is facing intense media scrutiny of his own.

Nonetheless as any seasoned romance reading veteran knows, love does win out. It just takes some compromise on both sides. Luc has never really been in deep love. While he is just recently out of a long-term relationship, his new feelings for Lily exceed anything he has ever felt before. And darn if it is not utterly romantic seeing him do whatever it takes to make sure Lily feels happy, safe, and loved. I really fell hard for this pair. It is clear that love has taken them both by surprise in a big way but they do find ways to welcome and embrace it.

Lily, I just really admired her. She is ambitious and hardworking (as seen by not only vocal lessons but all the intense rehearsals she goes through). And don’t forget her work on the soap opera. While it would be too easy to dismiss that role, Lily always gave it her all, perhaps unfortunately playing into her own typecasting by how successful she played the man-eater type woman.

Pretty Face really does apply to both Lily and Luc. Both characters seemed pegged by media and paparazzi at first but there is so much more to them than appearances. I simply loved watching them fall deeply in love with each other. I swear, this is one of the few books that gave me goosebumps! Their connection felt that natural and robust to me.

Pretty Face is available now and is worth the price! And while you’re at it, purchase Act Like It also!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00027]My name is Carly Porter… And I’m really good at bad decisions.

How do I know this, exactly? Well, not including the time I accidentally bleached my eyebrows or sprained my ankle changing a lightbulb…

I had sex with my best friend’s brother.

Zeke Elliott has been a thorn in my side for eleven years. A very sexy, very tempting, very freaking annoying one. With big…hands.

And now my clitoris has a crush on the guy.

Seriously. I can’t look at him without my vagina performing accidental kegels. Which would be fine, but he’s Cain’s brother. I hate him. He’s off limits, right?

Right.

“Don’t blame me,” he says. “You’re easy to rile. You rise to the bait every time…Like a pretty little piranha.”

“Did you just—” I spin, the wet cloth in my hand, and stare at him.

He’s holding my cake. And he’s bitten into it. The frosting is on his nose.

I respond the only possible way. I throw the cloth I’m holding at his face. It’s a damn good shot, because it opens up mid-air and covers half his face, leaving one of his eyes uncovered.

Brooke coughs and looks away.

“Thanks.” Zeke wipes his face off with the cloth and chucks it back to me. “I needed that. The damn frosting gets everywhere.”

“My frosting,” I shoot at him, turning the tap back on. “My cupcake, my frosting, your karma.”

“You two are exhausting.” Brooke sighs, joining me at the sink. “You either need to be separated on a permanent basis, like three-year-olds, or just have sex.”

My stomach loop-the-loops. “Unless he comes with batteries, I’m not interested.”

“I don’t need batteries,” Zeke offers, his sexy grin now an even sexier smirk. “It’s pretty easy to keep going when you’re being prayed to mid-fuck.”

“Why? Because you’re a god?” Brooke asks dryly. “How original of you. That’s never been used by a guy in the history of ever.”

Well. In all fairness, I might have begged to a deity once or twice when we…Never mind.

Not thinking about that.

“Can we not talk about sex?” I look around the room.

“Why?” Cain grins. “Aren’t you getting any?”

I look him dead in the eye and say, “I don’t need any.”

Zeke snorts. “People always need sex, Carly.”

I turn my attention to him and raise my eyebrow. “No. People need oxygen and water and food. You don’t even need sex to make babies now. Your point is moot.”

Review: The Wright Brother by K.A. Linde

twbbanner

The Wright Brother by K.A. Linde has it all. Lots of sexy moments, a lot of drama, and a family that rivals any of the families on Dallas that I watched growing up.

Emery used to date Landon Wright when she was in high school. However, after a few years together, Landon dumped her hard. Of course, that was almost ten years ago now. Emery has moved on. Unfortunately her taste in men hasn’t improved that much. After catching her most recent long-term boyfriend with another woman, Emery has had enough. She drops out of her PhD program and returns home to Lubbock, Texas, to be closer to her family while she decides what to do next.

What to do next does NOT mean having any kind of contact with Jensen Wright, the oldest Wright brother and the head of the family. It certainly does not mean making out with him at his sister’s wedding and then… accepting a date. It does not mean a wild night of sex where, come morning, he’s giving her the cold shoulder. Why does Emery seem to have a soft spot for the Wright men?

The Wright Brother throws two tough talking characters together and has them butt heads in the best way. Emery is tired of constantly giving the WRONG man a chance. She does not want a relationship but she just cannot say no to Jensen. For Jensen, he’s hesitant to get involved with his brother’s high school girlfriend but the friction and energy he feels with Emery makes it hard to stay away. Of course, in the course of trying to resist temptation, he behaves quite ignobly at times. After their first night together, he hustles her out of his house fast and like Emery, I was angry. He does apologize but I was really glad that Emery did not make things easy for him.

That being said, Jensen has some pretty deep motivations for his actions. His relationship with his ex-wife is awful and she burned him big time. While I hate the trope of the hero believing all women are “bad” (except for the heroine!) after a break-up, Jensen’s ex pulls some pretty awful things on him. I sympathized with his actions a bit more after discovering what was going on in his life.

Emery is far from perfect (as we all are!) but I just really liked her. She’s a bit of a tomboy but the more important things are that she is a good friend, a good sister, and though she’s at a crossroads in her life, she is not letting that defeat her. Emery is ready to handle life’s curveballs.

The Wright Brother is a sexy and fun romance. There is a great chemistry between the main characters but also just a fun rapport between the supporting characters too. I liked spending time in their world. K.A. Linde will hook you in with this charming Texas tale.

I’d dated his brother.

He didn’t remember and I wish I could forget.

I may have sworn off the Wright family a long time ago. But when I returned home, Jensen Wright crashed into my life with the confidence of a billionaire CEO and the sex appeal of a god. Even I couldn’t resist our charged chemistry, or the way he fit into my life like a missing puzzle piece.

Too bad he’d forgotten the one thing that could destroy us.

Because Jensen Wright doesn’t share. Not with anyone. And if his brother finds out, this could all go down in flames.

When it all was said and done, was he the Wright brother?

“This never happened.”

Zeke raises an eyebrow. “Nothing has happened.”

I put my hands on my hips and glare at him. “Don’t be a dick. You know what I mean. This is only going to happen because I’m a little drunk.”

“I thought you said it never happened.”

“You’re being a dick.”

His grin is wide and a little cocky. “So right now it’s happening because you’re a little drunk, but tomorrow it won’t have happened.”

I nod. “That’s right. You and I will forget it ever happened.”

His blue-green eyes sweep the length of my body before he meets my gaze, his lips dropping into a self-sure smirk. “Trust me, Carly, you won’t be forgetting this when I’m through with you.”

“Through with me? What am I? A naughty child awaiting punishment?”

“Look, if you want me to spank you, I’m good with that.” He raises his hands in front of his body. “In fact, I’m more than good with that.”

I blink at him. It really doesn’t help that he has his hands up like that. He has big, rough hands that would feel pretty good across my ass…

Good lord, Carly. Focus.

Wait. Does that count as focusing? I think it might.

Hmm…

“We’ll see,” I finally say, clearing my head of that momentary fog. “The point is, whether your ego insists I’ll remember this tomorrow—”

“You will.”

“—Or not,” I continue, ignoring him. “As far as everyone else is concerned, it never has and never will happen. Are we clear?”

“Crystal. Now, are you going to shut the hell up?”

“No. As a rule, I don’t shut up. Ever.”

Zeke steps forward, shutting the distance between us in less than three seconds. He lifts his hand to my chin and cups it, dipping his handsome face down close to mine. “That’s fine. I think I’ll prefer it when you’re screaming for more and calling me God.”

I raise both of my eyebrows. “I’m not going to call you God.”

“I guarantee you’ll feel differently when you’re having the best orgasm of your life.”

“That’s ambitious.” I’ve had some pretty good orgasms. Mostly battery-operated ones, because they can’t cum, so they don’t have to stop.

Zeke circles his strong arm around my waist and yanks me right against him. The force with which my body hits his makes me gasp, something that only makes his smirk a little stronger. “That’s exactly what’s going to happen.”

“Again,” I say, swallowing. “Ambitious.”

“Carly?”

“What?”

He lowers his face so the tip of his nose brushes mine and locks onto me with his gaze. “The next time you talk, you’ll be screaming my name.”

I open my mouth to rebuke that ridiculous—yet hot—statement, but he’s quicker. He drops his mouth to mine and takes my bottom lip between his. His teeth graze over the soft skin, and an uncontrollable shiver rockets down my spine.

Dear god, he’s barely touched me and I want to whimper like a puppy wanting a belly rub.

Except, of course, I want him to rub a whole lot more than my belly.

And do a whole lot more than rubbing while he’s at it too.

This is dumb. I know this. It’s dumber than dumb. It’s the most stupid idea in the history of stupid ideas.

Hell on a Harley Davidson, I’ve lost my goddamn mind.
