Theo Kershaw is the luckiest guy alive.

Roaring back from a life-threatening injury, he has the world at his skates as defenseman for his new team, the Chicago Rebels. Everyone adores his big personality, his on-ice talent, and his killer smile. Everyone but his prickly neighbor – or so he thinks. One chilly Christmas Eve, Theo will learn that maybe the girl next door isn’t such a hater after all …

Elle Butler is the most embarrassing person on the planet.

How else can the ex-military-now-bartender explain her crush on the hot jock who lives across the hall? True, he has gorgeous green eyes and perfect cheekbones, but the filter between his brain and too-sexy mouth is permanently malfunctioning. Yet she can’t stop checking out his Instagram antics or sneaking looks at him when he’s in her bar. So. Mortifying. Running from a past filled with damning secrets, Elle’s determined that this guilty pleasure remains buried in her deepest fantasies.

Because she couldn’t possibly indulge with the Theo Kershaw or make a mistake that draws attention to her under-the-radar life. And she especially couldn’t be a mom to a pro-athlete’s baby … could she?

EXCERPT:

“Yes, I’ve seen those billboards for your underwear.”

“Fender bender when you did, right?”

“Oh, I have epic self-control. But seeing them made me realize that you’re a bit too pretty. I kind of like ’em rougher.” She placed a finger under his chin and tilted it for inspection. “You ever get into a fight? And I don’t mean those phony ballets you perform on the ice for your fan base.”

“I’m more a lover than a fighter.”

She scoffed, reluctantly withdrawing her touch. “Thought as much. Wouldn’t want to risk getting that perfect nose broken.”

He didn’t take offense. She wondered what in the world would ever bother The Theo Kershaw.

“So we’ve established I’m not manly enough for you. Any other comments?”

“Oh, I’d never be one to criticize.”

He waved a hand. “Help me out, Elle-oh-Elle. Give me some pointers on how to win a real woman such as yourself.”

She thought about it for a moment, her blood fizzing with the fun of sparring with him. “You’d need to be a completely different person. But don’t fret, your current vapid personality is probably cleaning up so don’t change a thing, ’kay?”

He didn’t look put out, probably because her jab carried no heat. They both knew she wouldn’t be talking to him like this if she really believed he was dumb and vain.

“Yeah, good thing I’m doing okay. It’s just you’re here and I’m here …” The implication being that only proximity would force him to lower his standards.

She patted his chest and suppressed a groan at how hard it felt under her fingertips. “I know you can’t help yourself. You’ve got a penis that seeks out the nearest vagina like a diving rod. It’s really not your fault.”

“True. I can’t be held accountable for my incorrigible flirting.”

He grinned and she grinned back, and that fizz in her veins bubbled bright. He’d figured out her game, matched her quip for quip. They understood each other and now they were … friends?

How odd.

And surprisingly sweet.

Theo Kershaw was smarter than he looked. Confusion must have registered on her face because he seemed to be closer, more present. A rush of awareness overtook her, not just of him, but of them and the sparking connection being formed in this sizzling moment, more powerful than mere sexual attraction.

Best Man Teaser.jpg

Excerpt:

The dress is a strapless Carolina Herrera, with layers and layers of whisper-thin organza. It blows my budget and the “less is more” mantra out of the water, but like Eva said the day we bought it in downtown Denver, when you know, you know. The locale is the sumptuous Midnight Lodge, nestled in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, every tiny detail of the place costing my father more than an entire year of his salary. The twenty-three members of the bridal party are assembled. It’s the scene of every little girl’s fairytale fantasy.

My fantasy.

At least, the one I’d been harboring up until today, when everything changed.

Eva smiles at me. “Ready to make your dreams come true?”

I stare at myself in the mirror. I look like Cinderella, if the wicked stepmother had just materialized at the castle on Cinderella’s wedding day and gunned down Prince Charming in cold blood. I’m also about three minutes away from losing the mimosa I’d polished off earlier that morning at breakneck speed. I go to chew on my nails but then I remember Eva painted them, and the last thing I want is for him to see the chips.

He notices things like that. He’s an observer.

And I want to be perfect for him.

Him.

The wrong him.

Oh, god.

I go to chew on my lip, but I can’t do that because they’ve been lacquered with bubble-gum pink gloss, and he’d probably notice if I got it on my teeth, too. All my normal ways of freaking out are off limits.

This is the day of my dreams, the day I’ve planned to the letter, just so I could avoid any potential calamities that might make me freak out.

But I am freaking out. Oh, lordy, am I ever.

I’ve been waiting my whole life for this day.

This perfect day, where the sun is shining, the snow is melting, birds are singing, and the sky is the deepest blue I’ve ever seen.

But there’s a problem.

A problem in the form of a pretentious, bearded, six-foot-three wall of hot man flesh who stalks around hating the world and thinking he’s better than everyone in it.

My fiancé’s best friend. The best man, Miles Foster.

This is all his fault.

“You okay?” Eva asks.

“I am,” I insist, pushing the infernal veil out of my face for the thousandth time. “This dress is itchy as hell.”

I stand and pluck the dress up under my armpits, hoisting it over my boobs. I try to take a step but…too much fabric, in all directions. It’s a wonder I don’t drown in this sea. In this sea, or in this mess I’ve created for myself. I sit back down on the vanity stool and pout. “I’m stuck.”

In more ways than one.

She gathers handfuls of too much organza and helps me up, depositing the pile of fabric safely in my wake. I shuffle to the full-length mirror and glance at myself. I don’t look like a bride, or even a fairytale princess. I look like a prisoner who just got her death sentence.

“It’s too loose,” I whine. I never had much of a rack, and now it’s super obvious. Why did I decide to go strapless again? “I think I must’ve lost some boobage during my diet. What if the top of my dress falls down while I’m walking up the aisle?”

Eva smirks. “I’m sure Aaron’ll love the show.”

The thought makes the mimosa turn in my stomach. I used to live for what Aaron thought. Whenever I had a choice to make on something, be it a new movie coming out, or a sweater at the mall, or a new hair style, I’d think, Would Aaron like this? But I realize, as she says his name, that it doesn’t matter to me in the slightest what Aaron thinks. The only opinion I care about now is that of the man who will be standing precisely two feet to my husband-to-be’s left.

I am such an idiot.

In less than fifteen minutes, I will be marching down the stone steps outside the Midnight Lodge to a picturesque gazebo at the foot of the hills, on the arm of my father, who has socked his entire life’s savings into making this day picture perfect for his only daughter. I will take the hand of the man I’ve been attached at the hip to for over five years, ever since I met him in a dank frat cellar when I was a wide-eyed little college freshman. I will join with this man—this man I’ve spent all of my adult life with—in holy matrimony, ’til death us do part.

I will become Mrs. Aaron Eberhart.

But I know I’ll be looking past my husband-to-be to the man who, up until twelve hours ago, I’d thought I hated. Miles Foster.

And I will be wondering What if…

I wish choosing a husband was as simple as choosing a dress.

When you know, you know.

I did know, or I thought I did. Up until twelve hours ago, I thought Aaron Eberhart was my true soul mate, the one I’d happily spend the rest of my life with. That’s when things took an unexpected turn.

Right now? I don’t even know my own name.

And I have a feeling I might be making a huge mistake.

Blog Tour: My Fake Rake by Eva Leigh

In the first book in Eva Leigh’s new Union of the Rakes series, a bluestocking enlists a faux suitor to help her land an ideal husband only to be blindsided by real desire…

Lady Grace Wyatt is content as a wallflower, focusing on scientific pursuits rather than the complications of society matches. But when a handsome, celebrated naturalist returns from abroad, Grace wishes, for once, to be noticed. Her solution: to “build” the perfect man, who will court her publicly and help her catch his eye. Grace’s colleague, anthropologist Sebastian Holloway, is just the blank slate she requires.

To further his own research on English society, Sebastian agrees to let Grace transform him from a bespectacled, bookish academic into a dashing—albeit fake—rake. Between secret lessons on how to be a rogue and exaggerated public flirtations, Grace’s feelings for Sebastian grow from friendship into undeniable, inconvenient, real attraction. If only she hadn’t asked him to help her marry someone else…

Sebastian is in love with brilliant, beautiful Grace, but their bargain is complete, and she desires another. Yet when he’s faced with losing her forever, Sebastian will do whatever it takes to tell her the truth, even if it means risking his own future—and his heart.

“You don’t need to alter yourself for anyone. Especially not Fredericks.”

No one had ever said such a thing to her. Something stung her eyes, and she realized it was the heat of unshed tears of appreciation. “But Rotherby said—”

Sebastian drew closer. “Trust in me, Grace. Trust that when the time comes, Fredericks will be utterly captivated by you. And if he still can’t get his head out of his arse, then he’s not worth the effort.”

“You seem to keep swearing in my presence,” she said, because it was either make a jest or gratefully kiss him.

Kiss him.

Wait—what?

Review: Weekend Fling by Stacey Lynn

WF - BT banner.jpg

I haven’t read a lot of Stacey Lynn but what I have read so far, I have really enjoyed. And Weekend Fling is another good read. I do want to say, despite the title, there are some heavier issues involved in this book.

Willow has moved back home to Portland after the ending of a five year relationship that left her feeling broken. Unfortunately, things are not much better at her childhood home. Her mother is dealing with the fallout of her husband having left her. And by “dealing” I will say she is not dealing at all. Willow has taken over the financial stress of her mom’s life after her mom lost her job because she has fallen into a depression. Willow is working multiple jobs to make sure she can hang on to her mom’s house and pay the bills. It is not easy though.

Trey Kollins (this is how it is spelled in my ARC, but the fina

l book may have his last name spelled as “Collins” as in the book synopsis) is a local billionaire. He visits the coffee shop where Willow works every morning and he has made it clear he would like to take her out on a date. He is persistent though it is never portrayed as aggressive and unwelcome. Willow just politely says “No” and Trey accepts. Even if he does ask again. This time he has a no offer. He’d like to take Willow to a weekend wedding in California. Willow is very tempted because she is working her butt off to make ends meet and frankly a weekend away sounds heavenly. She does agree and is ready to have fun though she makes it clear to Trey it can just be a fun weekend. But what if even she starts to yearn for more?

Like I said, this book is fun but it has its heavier moments too. Willow has a lot on her shoulders and it is not easy making sure her mom is getting up and at least pretending to live. Add in all the late bills and Willow is scraping by. She is a hard worker though and is doing her absolute best. She is also human though

and Stacey Lynn makes that clear as the story continues. Willow wants to throw in the towel sometimes. She is angry at her mom and her dad. She is angry at her ex. But she does her best to not let the anger get the best of her.

Trey is a fun-loving guy, much more free spirited than Willow can even contemplate right now. From her point of view, their differences are just too immense to even contemplate being anything more than a weekend fling. But Trey may be a billionaire now, he has not always been that way and he knows a lot about hard work. They have a more of a foundation to build on than Willow realizes.

The story is both steamy and sad. Willow has to deal with her mom and it is not easy. I felt Stacey Lynn did a good job delving tentatively into the topic of depression. She writes in the author acknowledgment’s she lost a friend to suicide so I felt like she definitely was sensitive about depression.

Fortunately, there is a happier ending all around. Not perfect but a good fit for Willow and Trey.

Weekend Fling is available now!

It’s just supposed to be a weekend fling. . . .

Weekend Fling, an all-new contemporary romance from Stacey Lynn is available now!

Fresh out of a long-term relationship, Willow Parks is working two jobs and caring for her mother, whose husband left her with nothing but a pile of bills. That’s why Willow made a vow: no men until she figures out her own life.

But while she may not need a man, she could use a break. And a weekend away at a California beach to clear her head? That’s appealing. Even if the offer comes from Trey Collins, the irresistible tech-mogul millionaire who visits her coffee shop every morning like clockwork—and needs a date for his best friend’s wedding. With an adorable, occasional stutter, he refuses to take no for an answer.

Once the weekend begins, Trey is intent on proving how good they can be together. Willow’s even feeling tempted to break her vow—until reality rudely interrupts her well-deserved getaway. There’s no way she and Trey have a future, not with the colossal amount of baggage Willow has to offer.

But Trey is used to getting what he wants. He just has his work cut out for him convincing her that they want the same thing.

Excerpt:

“What’s your favorite color?” She tilts her head to the side and winks.

Damn, she’s cute.

“Navy blue.”

She snorts. “Typical male color.”

Anything but. “You were wearing navy-blue Converse sneakers with frayed denim jeans the first time I stepped into Java Joe’s and saw you.”

Screw waiting for tomorrow. Operation seduce-the-sexy-barista begins now.

I’ve surprised her, based on the way her jaw unhinges and her pretty blue eyes fly open. It’s time she realizes how long I’ve really wanted to ask her out. I scoot forward on my chair as she stammers, those cheeks of hers burning bright, and I place my hand at her jaw. It’s the first time we’ve truly touched, other than some minor hand-holding, and I’m stunned by the softness of her skin where my hand brushes her chin, and she closes her mouth with a snap.

I’m not generally a lay-your-cards-on-the-table kind of guy, preferring to keep them close to my vest with those I don’t know well. In my line of work, secrecy is absolute. Anyone can steal an idea, and it’s easier to keep anything personal to the few people I trust. But it might be time to throw all those cards down, faceup, if I want a chance with this woman.

“I like you, Willow. I was attracted to you the first time I walked into Java Joe’s. I like that you ignore me, but you blush as you look away. I like that you stood up to me when I put my foot in my mouth, and I even like that you’re scared of small planes and the ocean—”

“I’m not afraid—”

“I also think you’re beautiful and sexy as hell, heavy baggage and stubbornness included. You need to know all that this weekend, because I plan on spending the next few days showing you exactly how much I mean it.”

My thumb trails over her lips as they part. Soft. So damn soft. My dick is currently anything but.

“You’re very forward.”

I lean closer, my hand at her jaw sliding to the back of her neck to pull her close. She comes easily, lips parting further, as I get so close to her. My lips are at her ear, that hit of her jaw, her cheeks . . . “I’m very turned on by you, Willow Parks, and I’m not a man who passes on an opportunity when it’s quite literally almost in my lap. I’m more of a seize-and-conquer kind of man, but you’ll learn that. I promise.”

Her body shivers and her puff of breath against my skin turns shallow. I’ve turned her on and I’m hard as a rock. Brushing my lips across her cheek, I kiss her, tease, taking the hint of the promise of her sweetness with me and swallowing it down before I lean back. “We should go to sleep. You have an early morning.”
