Elle Kennedy remains one of my must-read authors. I am very fortunate that I was able to get an advanced copy of her new book, The Dare. Taylor is at another sorority party making her mandatory appearance when one of the sorority members, and Taylor’s nemesis, gives her a dare: seduce Conor. Well, that’s not going to happen but Taylor also isn’t going to lose face in front of Abigail. She approaches Conor and what proceeds is one of the most fun nights of her college days so far, though it involves no sex.
Conor really enjoyed his pretend night of seduction with Taylor so when he sees her sorority members talking trash about her, he puts his own plan in motion. Soon, Taylor and Conor are inseparable. The only problem? It’s a ruse. Taylor is worried she will fall for Conor hard. She just never expects that he has the same fear.
The Dare is another Briar University book. Hockey plays a big role as usual, especially since Conor is one of the new members of the hockey team. But he feels different from the other players. He did not grow up in an Ivy league home. The only reason he is at Briar now is because his new stepfather pulled some strings. He feels as fake and uncomfortable as Taylor does at her sorority. This actually gives them something more in common than they expect!
Taylor had hoped being at college would make her life… different. Unfortunately, it seems college is the same as high school, filled with many mean-spirited women. She wanted to be in a sorority in the hopes it would be fun but it has turned into nothing but a mess. Being part of Conor’s world however opens a new window into college for her and for once, she is having fun. She has Conor, who she is definitely crushing on, and her best friend, Sasha, to make the world a bit better. But the closer she gets to Conor, the more she wants their faux-relationship to be something more. And he starts to feel the same way.
I really liked how Elle Kennedy makes her characters find ways to connect that don’t seem obvious to them. Conor and Taylor both feel a bit like oddities. They connect because they feel disconnected from the organizations that are part of their lives. Of course, make no mistake, Conor is a college guy and he is very attracted to Taylor. They have strong chemistry that enhances the story and their connection.
What starts as a dare turns into something great for both of them. I really like the end in particular because Taylor really has to put herself out there. It’s tough for her but I really admired how she finally stands up for herself. It was long overdue but in a way that left me satisfied.
The Dare is pretty classic Elle Kennedy. If you enjoy her stories, I have no doubt you will also like this book. And if you’re new to her, while this may not be the first book to jump into, it also stands on its own enough to make sure you can focus solely on Conor and Taylor. Recommended!

Get ready for another binge-worthy romance from New York Times bestselling author Elle Kennedy!
College was supposed to be my chance to get over my ugly-duckling complex and spread my wings. Instead, I wound up in a sorority full of mean girls. I already have a hard time fitting in, so when my Kappa Chi sisters issue the challenge, I can’t say no.
The dare: seduce the hottest new hockey player in the junior class.
Conor Edwards is a regular at Greek Row parties…and in Greek Row sorority beds. He’s the one you fall for before you learn that guys like him don’t give girls like me a second glance. Except Mr. Popular throws me for a loop—rather than laughing in my face, he does me a solid by letting me take him upstairs to pretend we’re getting busy.
Even crazier, now he wants to keep pretending. Turns out Conor loves games, and he thinks it’s fun to pull the wool over my frenemies’ eyes.
But resisting his easy charm and surfer-boy hotness is darn near impossible. Though I’m realizing there’s much more to Conor’s story than his fan club can see.
And the longer this silly ruse goes on, the greater the danger of it all blowing up in my face.
