Review: The Bachelor on the Shelf by Jana Aston

The Bachelor on the Shelf proved to be my favorite story in this second go-round in the world of Reindeer Falls. Carter Sheppard is a baseball star who has relocated for the time being to his hometown of Reindeer Falls to pick up the dog he inherited. Unfortunately, he has a little bit of bad press going on right now and of course, this being a romance novel, the answer is definitely a fake fiancée! I like this formula in romances and I enjoyed it here too.

Lexi just wants to take care of the dog she has come to love. Unfortunately, Carter isn’t making that easy since he now inherited the dog. He’s willing to give her “custody” again if she play along as his fake fiancée.

Jana Aston writes a very sexy and perfectly sweet Christmas novella in The Bachelor on the Shelf. I liked the chemistry between the two leads and the history Lexi had of crushing on Carter back in high school. This is a fairly straightforward romance but Jana Aston gives it some spark and zing with fun dialog, a great secondary character in the dog, and well, plenty of holiday romance to prove their engagement is “real” to the public. And the epilogue (I’m a fan of epilogues) was A+ material to this reader!

Blurb:

My name is Carter Sheppard and I actually like Christmas and my Christmas-themed hometown of Reindeer Falls. In fact, when I learn I have to return home in order to collect an inheritance—my uncle’s dog—it puts life into perspective for me.

Sure, playing professional baseball is great. But it won’t last forever and every player needs a long-term game plan.

And I just found mine. Wrapped up in the feisty, bespectacled package of the town librarian.

Unfortunately, she thinks I’m a player in all aspects of the word, but I’ve got a plan to win her over. Starting with a fake engagement…

About the Author:

Jana Aston likes cats, big coffee cups and books about billionaires who deflower virgins. She wrote her debut novel while fielding customer service calls about electrical bills, and she’s ever grateful for the fictional gynecologist in Wrong that readers embraced so much she was able to make working in her pajamas a reality. Jana’s novels have appeared on the NYT, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists, some multiple times. She likes multiples.
