Review: Hard Love by Sara Ney

Hard Love is the newest book in Sara Ney’s Trophy Boyfriends series. It follows Tripp Wallace and newly introduced character, Chandler Westbrooke.

I think more than any other title in this series so far, this one is really true. Tripp is… hard. He has a very difficult time letting people in and I never quite understood why. He has a great family. He gets razzed on by his brother, Buzz, a lot, but it is clear they love each other. And Tripp has a really good life. He is a professional football player, makes good money, has a nice home. But for some reason I just didn’t fathom, he has a difficult time with connecting with women.

Chandler is a sweet woman, newly independent and trying to make her post-college life a success. She is working for her family’s business (which happens to own a baseball team) but she is doing her best to not live off her parents money. Tripp thinks she is rather boring when he first meets her. She is equally unimpressed with him too. In fact, when Chandler lands Tripp flat on his back at his brother’s wedding, well, let me just say I thought it was an unexpected awakening for him.

I liked this book well enough. It isn’t my favorite Sara Ney title and it definitely lacks some of the humor of the previous books in this series but it does end on a high note. Chandler and Tripp’s dog, Chewy, turn out to be the stars of this story and I enjoyed seeing Chandler wake up to her potential.

Release Blitz and Review: Hard Fall by Sara Ney

Hard Fall by Sara Ney is her newest book and it is fun. That’s the highest compliment I can give it because from beginning to end, it was just a lot of fun to watch Trace “Buzz” Wallace and Hollis fall in love. It is a very different kind of courtship as it starts off as a fake date but grows into something neither is expecting (as is usually the case with a good romance).

Buzz meets Hollis at the team headquarters for the Chicago Steam, the baseball team he plays for. He hits on her but she rebuffs him hard. Hollis has just come off a bad relationship with another baseball player and she is not falling for that again. Of course, little does she know that Buzz is very hard to forget.

This is classic fun Sara Ney romance. There is great repertoire between the leads. A lot of snarky give and take which I always enjoy! Both leads have supporting characters behind them to lend advice or alcohol when needed. Plus, Sara Ney knows how to write steamy love scenes and she does not skimp on that front in Hard Fall. Buzz and Hollis do not lack in sexual chemistry. I admit, I liked this book better than the first book in the series but part of that is because even in Hard Pass, Buzz stood out to me in a way Noah (the hero of that book) did not. Buzz is a goofball but there are several things he takes seriously: baseball, his family, his friends, and now, Hollis. If you’re looking for a fun, quick but very steamy and awkward romantic love story (Buzz’s mom plays matchmaker in one scene and forces them to share Buzz’s childhood bedroom!), get this book on your e-reader. Hard Fall is fun. Plain and simple, it took my mind off the craptastic realism of 2020 and that’s high praise in these times.

Release Date: August 18

“Hard Fall”
That’s what my mom is always saying: “The bigger you are, the harder you fall.” She’s talking about love—I’ve never been in it myself, but that doesn’t stop me from secretly matchmaking for my friends. Who would suspect me, a world class athlete, of meddling in other people’s love lives? I love Love, especially when it’s not me who’s doing the falling…

“No Thanks.”
That’s what Hollis Westbrooke said when I asked her on a date. Well, propositioned her, actually—but it was all a big joke; one she doesn’t think is funny. My stomach is in knots since I might actually like this girl so the joke is on me. Hollis’s father is my boss—and she doesn’t date players.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall—especially when biggest player is me.

Review: Hard Pass by Sara Ney

Okay, there is definitely a quality of suspension of belief in Hard Pass. Noah Harding is a twenty-four year old pro baseball player for the Chicago Steam. He is a millionaire, owns a gigantic house, and loves his job. He loves baseball, period. The only thing he has to contend with… women find him ugly. Oh they will sleep with him but it is obvious it is for his money and name recognition. Unfortunately he has had a few cruel comments directed his way. (Now, again, let’s be honest, this happens way worse for women but let’s just go with what Sara Ney has laid out.)

Miranda is anxious to start up her own design business but she needs money to do so. Enter her grandfather’s collection of baseball cards, many of which are worth a lot of money. She is selling them herself in order to get the funds she needs for her business. She knows she won’t get the amount they are truly worth since she isn’t going through an auction site but she needs the money now, not in three months. When she puts out an ad, Noah answers. And they strike up an odd friendship.

Only Noah doesn’t believe a woman as beautiful as Miranda could ever like him for who he is. He genuinely believes his looks are a hindrance though as he is about to learn, that isn’t what puts Miranda off.

Hard Pass is a fun and frothy Sara Ney story. I really liked Miranda a lot. She does not put up with any crap from men and when she finds out who Noah really is, well let’s just say she isn’t amused with how they really met. But the attraction is there and Noah isn’t afraid to grovel… though he definitely makes some mistakes along the way.

Miranda helps Noah come out of his shell. It is amusing to watch him realize that maybe he is worth a real relationship after all. And it is kind of him to want to fall on his sword at a certain point but that is definitely not what Miranda wants or needs.

You will also meet Noah’s arrogant and cocksure best friend, Buzz, who is being set-up for book two. He definitely is…the stereotype of an assured and wealthy athlete.

Hard Pass is the kind of amusing story I have come to expect from Sara Ney. She keeps the rapid-fire dialog hopping and there is never a dull moment between Miranda and Noah. I cheered on Miranda every step of the way in both the romance and the steps she is taking to be a small-business owner.

Fun start to a new series from Sara Ney!

Review: Bachelor Boss by Sara Ney

Release Date: April 7

It isn’t often you catch a coworker puking in the garbage but that is exactly what Spencer witnesses after daring Phillip to eat some old, gross cream cheese. And well, he wasn’t go to say no to that challenge! No one is the boss of him. But Spencer definitely has the last laugh, of sorts. Phillip is forced to move into her office because of a renovation that is going on at the company they both work at. Suddenly, these two are sharing tight quarters and their witty banter and flirtatious innuendos are making the very air around them feel electric.
I like Bachelor Boss more than the first book in this series. There is just something about Phillip and Spencer’s chemistry that really resonated with me. And despite the “bachelor society” that Phillip participates in, he notes very quickly in the book’s beginning that he is interested in having a family and being married. In fact, he bemoans the fact that all he has in his life are his friends and Humphrey. Then he meets Spencer and it is like instant chemistry explosion! Destiny.
I will say, on a personal note, I’ve been laid off so my reading has been…. in spurts. I haven’t been able to concentrate on books the way I normally I have so this one took me a bit longer to read than normal for a Sara Ney book BUT I credit that totally to me and my personal mental struggles.
I really liked Humphrey the basset hound, definitely a star of this book in my mind! He made me laugh and his “training” with Phillip is pretty much Humphrey does what he wants when he wants it. Also, I liked the animal voice in this book versus the first in the series. Sara Ney nails basset hound!
All in all, Bachelor Boss has a lot of good things going for it. Spencer is ambitious and fun. Despite his good intentions to win the bet he has going on with this two best friends, Phillip wants to fall in love. And while he messes up at the end (as one would expect), I appreciated how he grovelled and made things right.
Sara Ney continues her winning streak of fun contemporary romances.
What is The Bachelors Club?
It’s a gentleman’s club—like the dignified men of the past used to have. Except, we’re not gentleman, and we’re not dignified.
We’re ineligible bachelors, bored, jaded and not looking for relationships. Quite the opposite actually. So committed to being single, we’ve created a high stakes bet to see who can remain single the longest…

Four days co-habitating in a shared work space shouldn’t be a big deal. It shouldn’t be distracting. But Spencer Standish saw me puking in a company trash can, and won’t let me live it down. Cheerful, aggravating Spencer, who wants me to fetch her coffee.
As if she’s the boss of me.

And now I’m stuck sharing her office.
Let’s face facts: I can’t be in a relationship; not when there’s a bet to win—not with Spencer, who loves my uncontrollable basset hound, lazy Sundays, and grilled cheese as much as I do. I refuse to fall for her.

will be the last Bachelor standing.

Review: Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney

Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney is the start of a new series and it’s a bit different for her which was cool. Not college students (though both the main characters are in their first careers). I was eager to explore what would happen to Abbott and Brooks.

Brooks has had his heartbroken and is well, somewhat bitter about women at the moment. He convinces his two buds to form the “Bastard Bachelor Society” where they swear off women (one member even breaks up with his current girlfriend), wear velvet smoking jackets and just behave like guys in the bar they like to frequent. It seems like a great idea to Brooks! But then… he meets Abbott Margolis, her cat, and her Nan.

Abbott lives in the same building as Brooks and they get acquainted when Abbott fails to hold the elevator door open for him when he is coming back from the office with a giant box in his hands. Cue their second meet-cute where Abbott is picking up food and bringing it back to her apartment when Brooks notices. He is hungry and well, they instantly have a fun time trading jokes and laughs.

But Brooks cannot fall for Abbott. He absolutely cannot. Not only did he found the Bastard Bachelor Society but he gave up season tickets so if he loses their bet, he is out expensive tickets too. But Brooks may just be falling fast.

Let me start right away and say that Brooks and his cohort are kind of…. old school bros. They aren’t nasty about women but they are definitely the type of guys you’d see belonging to a fraternity. That being said, Brooks grew on me a lot. He clearly cares about Abbott almost immediately and they do have a really comfortable friendship initially. That changes as the attraction grows and Brooks has to figure out what he really wants in his future. A dumb velvet smoking jacket or time with Abbott. It should be a no brainer but as I pointed out, Brooks is definitely thinking with guy brain.

Abbott is really sweet. She comes from a wealthy family but she is working to make an impression in the family company. She is just a genuine, fun woman who wants to please her Nan, take care of her cat, and avoid any marriage traps the family sets for her. But she is not immune to Brooks and his charm.

The dialog is fast-paced and funny in this book. It reminds me of Gilmore Girls style dialog! Heck, the book even has a cat and features a few chapters from the cat’s point of view. (Not the highlight for me really but it wasn’t awful.)

I am very interested to see where Sara Ney takes this series. I’m not sure if Brooks’ two friends, Blaine and Phillip, are meant to be the next bachelors. Neither of them jumped out at me as leading men material so I am curious to see how they can be fleshed out and made a bit more three dimensional.

I really liked Abbott and Brooks together. They have really good chemistry and it is clear from the get-go they just genuinely like and enjoy each other’s company. That was really nice to see and it started their relationship off on a strong footing for me.

I think if you can get past some of the initial “bro” speak between the three guys, this book is going to be a lot of fun. I’m always glad to jump back into a Sara Ney book and Bastard Bachelor Society is no different. Solid read!
