So, for whatever reason, the past few books I’ve read have all involved some form of baking or cooking. It’s been enjoyable and I’m glad to say that I can add With This Cake to that list of books I like with a baking theme!
Leanna “Lea” Baker (yep, she is a baker with Baker as her last name) has to bake a lot (A LOT!) for her cousin’s engagement party. Lea doesn’t mind too much but she does kind of think Charlene (the bride) is being slightly bridezilla-ish. But Lea is a professional and is making it work until she runs into cupcake tray first into a tall and sexy guy. Boom, there goes a whole lot of cupcakes to the ground and unfortunately, Lea also hits her head. What was going so well is suddenly not.
Brody King is a workaholic who is not pleased that he has to attend his brother’s engagement party. He can’t believe an engagement party can possibly be four days. But when he accidentally knocks Lea to the ground, he feels lower than dust. He wants to make it right with her and that means stepping up into her dessert breach and working with her. And this is where the fun and chemistry starts flying.
With This Cake is a great combination of fun and perfect uncomplicated romance. There are of course complications but all in all, it was a story I was able to dive headfirst into and just enjoy every page. The pacing worked for me, their slightly messy introduction to each other worked and the way Brody and Lea found their place with each other during the very busy weekend was fun. I think fun just sums up this book nicely. I liked both characters a lot. I was a little worried the book would be too saccharine sweet when I met “Lea Baker the baker” but don’t worry. There is a lot of sweetness but it mellows into the real world dynamics of being attracted to a man you definitely don’t see yourself ever settling down with.
This is a fun series! I think I will try the other books too. With this Cake is available now!
