Review: My Favorite Dish by Kenzie Reed

If you enjoy stories set in small communities with characters that go from normal to perhaps a bit more eccentric, My Favorite Dish by Kenzie Reed may be a good fit for you!

Riley has finalized her divorce and is moving in a new direction in her personal life. She has inherited a big hotel on a very sleep and small Florida island from her beloved aunt. Riley is very excited to start an artists colony in the hotel, a dream she shared with her aunt. Unfortunately, after being in the house, she starts to hear noises. Heading into the lobby area she is confronted with a naked man.

Sawyer Hendricks, a chef as famous for his temper as his food, has just bought a big hotel on a small Florida island. He plans on turning it into another world-renowned restaurant. He does not expect to have to fight someone over the true ownership of the house. He also doesn’t expect feral parrots.

Riley and Sawyer both have grand plans for the property. Reality and the mystery of how they both have come to “own” this hotel are about to intrude. They will definitely have to put their heads together to figure it out.

My Favorite Dish is a sweet story. It didn’t blow my mind but I thought it was enjoyable. I liked the ambiance of the sleepy Florida island they are now calling home. I really liked the small child character, Mary, and her interest in the parrots.

Riley and Sawyer do have decent chemistry which helps. I think where Kenzie Reed really shined in her writing is the relationship between Riley and her best friend, Alex. Their phone calls are very amusing!

My Favorite Dish has strong appeal for readers who love small town (with a kick!) romances. I like that both characters have big goals and dreams. It was very interesting to watch them come to fruition throughout the course of the story.

Release Date: February 17

Running away from a disaster of a divorce? Starting my life over from scratch?  My friends and family have ideas.

Open an artist’s colony on a beautiful coastal island, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.  “They” haven’t met Sawyer Hendricks, the gorgeous, growly celebrity chef who claims he owns the dream hotel that I just inherited.

“They” haven’t been terrorized by a flock of foul-mouthed feral parrots.  “They” haven’t been treated to the sight of Sawyer’s magnificent backside as he hogs the only working shower in our – I mean my – waterfront mansion.  “They” haven’t run smack up against a cranky gang of geriatric islanders who will stop at nothing to ensure that life on Rocky Shoals never changes.

Then again, “they” haven’t experienced what it feels like to be kissed by a man who has a Ph.D. in giving lip service.  “They” haven’t been spoon fed tiramisu by moonlight.

So, maybe “they” are on to something after all…or maybe this whole escapade is just a recipe for disaster.
